Magnetic Stirrers and ISE's.

Q Should I always use a magnetic stirrer when working with ISE's?

A Most ISE work involves mixing standards and samples with ISABs or performing a dilution. Your samples and standards should therefore be mixed thoroughly. However once they are mixed you are better advised to take readings in a static solution. If you must stir e.g. in a titration or in a suspension you must ensure the stirring rate is the same for all standards and samples. The slower the speed the more consistent will be your results.
